Flazr Plugin Specification
In video streaming technology the streaming media server is the center of the media content delivery. When establishing connection with the client the streaming server takes care of the delivery of the media stream and provides feedback to the client. The server essentially handles the whole delivery process and it is important to specify the requirements for it first. Then a server side applet that provides a convenient interface for the client to connect is developed and implemented on the server. In this tutorial, Flazr will mainly focus on the server side implementation of a streaming server applet and of the client side applet for easy interaction.

The RTMP specification divides a streaming media server into two parts: a client and a server. The client is a software component or a SWF player that is communicating with the server through RTMP. The server provides a service to the client and it might be an external server or an internal streaming server. It is important to know the differences between a streaming server and a regular server in order to set up the real streaming server. The main differences are as follows:
The connection between client and server is not static.
The server has to have a unique IP address for each client.
The server is not responsible for the delivery of the audio/video stream
Streaming Server Requirements
Firstly, the streaming server requires the SWF player (client) to be installed on a client computer. The player should be able to communicate with the streaming server to play media files. Secondly, it requires an external application called a browser, which is installed on the client computer, to handle the communication between the player and the server. Thirdly, it also requires a Streaming Media Server Protocol (SMSP) in order to enable the communication between the client and the streaming server.
